--> This is a track I am playing around with right now. I guess it's shoegazery with lots of other things thrown in. I spent a week at the coast at a friend's beach house with some music gear and my cello and guitar. He has an old banjo that I tuned up and strummed a little, and bowed a little.

I like bowing things. I think it's the best new skill I've picked up lately as a musician.

This is the first track I've played cello on, so please be kind, I know my playing is not perfect. But I think I'm beginning to be able to go where I want to go musically, combining shoegazer distortion with the cello.

Comments on the mix is welcome...the transitions need some work. I know the drums suck, I need to work on them. I may just actually record my kit after the new mics come in.

wow, that was really a banjo? Unrecognizeable, at least to my banjo-deprived ears.

Yeah, replace those drums with a good recording... that'll be less work than trying to fix the ones you have, I imagine.

I still ove over-reverbed guitar solos. Or banjo solos. As long as they have tooooo muuuuch reverbbbbbb

v-cool.
the drums need replacing. only cos the rest of the track works so well, its a shame that the drums bring it down a bit.
reverbed banjos are also good for hitting with drumsticks to get dubby percussion effects.

what about pickin' a snare drum?

The plucky thing/ethereal drone in the mix is the banjo...the guitar and cello take a lot of the room in the mix.

Have I mentioned that I love iZotope Trash? Best distortion plugin evar.

whohohoha

for some reason, this made me feel like a night walking around portland with a head full of lsd. really vividly.

love all the high details

wow, portland must be depressing...
I agree with above comments. The drums must change.
I really like the mush of it all - great to 'get lost in' on headphones.
I don't think it needs a vocal necessarily, but I'd like to hear something breathy and ethereal to lead it along.
It's just the right length, too.

Thanks for the good feedback, guys...yeah, I'm gonna record drums for this definitely. Which means I have to go practice now.

Yeah, portland can get kinda depressing in the wintertime.

I hear you on the breathy, subset. I'm thinking I can dig out some choral "oohs" or "aaahs" and mix them a little low in the mix.

This song must echo the essence of Portland really, although I have never been there so I am only guessing.

I am quite unsure on how to fairly offer critique on this kind of "Shoegazer Distortion" type of style as you put it. I have never heard of such a thing, and since I live in Denver, Colorado I am often the last to know about all the cool stuff that is being developed on the coastal cities. Perhaps that is why I still use so many Quicktime Instruments, no oxymoron intended.

But sticking on focus here, I will agree with mlbot in his first comment, about the use of reverb may be a bit much. Perhaps more "Bowing"will be better brought out by backing a bit off the reverberation.

I thank you for sharing such a unique sound pallette, and mood is what this track was all about for me. I will certainly anticipate the release of your drum work.
