Cheers everyone.

I had written a track years ago for a project called Fall Water. I was listening back to it and was inspired by 2 of the chords I had used. So I unplugged myself from the world wide interwebs a few weeks ago and wrote this song around those 2 chords. I call this my Desconstruct Remix as hommage to the original.

I envision a small EP of tracks like this (and the track of mine here called 'Smoke') - centered around my bass(es), with minimal drums/percussion/other orchestration. I want these tracks to show a more intimate side of my main instrument without sounding too 'solo'. Trying to keep the arrangements interesting at the same time so as not to bore the listener.

This one features just me, my 4 string, and some minimal beats.

At any rate, I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for labels (net or otherwise) you think might show an interest in material like this. I know it doesn't fit a set genre so there may not be any suggestions...at which point I'll self release if people think they'd be interested in checking it out.

Of course I would have it lovingly mastered by JDG before 'officially' releasing it . This is a rough mix so hopefully people will enjoy.

Thanks everyone for listening.

Peace

gawd this is amazing! i'd love to hear things spread out a bit as it feels bunched up in the middle. perhaps a less grainy reverb on the bass, or just less verb in general?

do you like michael manring?
The tone reminds me of vic wooten.
I like your use of harmonics and the trebleishness of a lot of the notes you play.
those basses sound so good.

I think the verb on the basses is ok but the beats are much more non-verby as to sound like they're in a different room, you know?

I like it. Keep these coming.
Squarepushery - but in an iambic 5 poetry sort of way.

Really beautiful...though I think the beats could have more variations to go with the different sections of the song.
Very well done . . . I really enjoy this acoustical works that are released here at em411. I'd agree with Roshi and add some variety to the drums (maybe more highs?) . . . Really puts me in the Iambic 5 Poetry mood...wistful and bashful.

Congrats on making me happy through the sound of music...
wow. thanks for the kind words people!

@bleen - michael manring is tres talented. the ending of this song is very much like his approach. thanks for the compliment!
@electrodan - thanks for the compliment about wooten too! yeah, the drums are a tad more dry than my bass, but for some reason the sound stuck with me. again, it added more emphasis on the bass, aleit in an unorthodox kind of way. haha.
@roshi - squarepusher is also a compliment, although i've never heard his bass playing to be quite like this. thanks for the nod. i agree about the drums. i went back and forth between keeping them steady and consistent and adding more variation. tough call.
@ zfigz - thank you very much for the shout. i'm very happy to make you happy, especially with my 'non' electronic musical musings! 2nd person to name iambic 5...must revisit them....

thank you again everyone for listening and taking the time to comment. i greatly appreciate it!

pretty good bass lines, is that a fretless, sounds like it.
I would have liked a bit more variation within that
bass line...i do like that change with the bass tap
deal, great man!!! The bass tone sounds good
and warm. Paino guitar, perhaps organ would thicken it
up a bit too perhaps. Otherwise it sounds very bass instructional video
to me.
I'm in love with the bass tone as well. Gorgeous.

I don't mind the steady beat, though I'd want to brighten that snare up a bit and maybe add a touch of verb to it to put it in the same space as the bass as electrodan suggested.

I really like the mood happening here. I could stay in this space for a while. Nice!
made me wet my pants.

absolutely beauty. i think it is good idea to keep the beats not that much varying. it makes the bass stand out even more.
maybe i'd add some more watery percussions.
Love it soooooooooooooooooooo much
AN example of a working bassline. And woking well might add. I also like the simplicity of the drum trax. Keeps the melllowed out feel going.
Like the mellowed out feel.
Nice
like it, nothing else to say really.
bass playing is incredible. bass tone is also incredible.

i agree, the beats could use a bit of variation

but man you play the hell out of that bass. i just wouldn't want it to fall in the trap of many instrumentalists-placing 100% of the focus on the lead instrument. a little variation in the back makes it all the more overwhelming. even something as simple as a drop every now and then.
woah. cheers everyone!

i'm really pleased with the responses so far. i know it is very much a matter of personal pref using more verb or variation in drumming. i wish i had time to make versions for each suggestion to see how they sound. hmmm, perhaps people would be interested in a remix project of this track? EP of them? what say you em411ers ?

thanks again for listening and commenting everyone. i really do appreciate all the kind words and suggestions.

this is pretty cool. I like the pace and the base playing for sure. Being a rhythm person myself I would like to hear more drums, but I think that with a lot of music I hear. I like it the way it is
rough mix. that's silly talk!
lovely.
that is one big 4-string spatially.
love the fullness. i keep guessing what piano would play without sounding horrible.
can't hear that. sounds lovely just as is..
