Notis - Cooksonia (the prelude)

I posted this song in December, and got some really useful feedback (particularly from JDG). Here's the new revision. I hope it sounds more spacious.

This song was the hardest thing I've ever tried to mix. Each movement required completely different treatment for each track. This was compounded by the fact that the main instrument was a hybrid of a wine glass and a Tassman patch. I had to work extra hard to merge two instruments into one. Hopefully they do sound integrated, but retain characteristics from both source instruments. Sometimes I hear a little bit of plucked string sound, which is thanks to the Tassman patch.

To me the song-writing is like a Bach Harpsichord concerto times Plaid, particularly the second half.

But one can only be so accurate when assessing his/her own work.

So lemme know what yall mufuckas think.

Thanks.

although i resent being characterized as a 'mufucka', i liked the song really a lot. very full sounding. i have no criticisms at all, this is great! the harmony is pretty good. the atmospheric sounds are really tight and at the right volume. ok i found one: sometimes the voice doubling on the main line gets a ltitle annoying, there's like a banjo/koto sound that isn't to so much to my liking. that's the worst i got for ya, this is really tight. and the very end with that odd bass drum sound and the counter-melody, it's really really nice. I'm not sure i'd say it's 'bach-like', but plaid like sure. reminds me some of some bjork tunes.

good stuff!

Thanks Flies. Even if you don't like one of the sounds, it pleases me that it sounds like a banjo or koto since no stringed instruments were used.

Can you tell me what you mean by "voice doubling"? Perhaps your referring to the part about three and a half minutes in that has alternating note events every quarter note?

hey i remember this.

fucking rad.
