zanf - Refundable Deposit
Release
Author: Zanf on June 19 2006

Well, here is a completely new track from me.
I went to a friends this weekend and we worked on about 4 different songs but this came the furthest. It's not finished and Im not too sure about certain aspects of it but Im happy with the amount of time/effort and the result.
Not anything greatly exciting, groundbreaking or the sort - just a little ditty that tickled me when I was writing it. It reminds me of when I was about 9 and the ska records that were being played at the time althought it is nothing like them before you think Im making a comparision.
The mix could be right out as I did it at a friends and I really cant guage the sound of his place yet so forgive me if it sounds crap.
The title came from STFU Weimar. All bottles have a refundable deposit.
As I said, a work in progress so comments welcome.

i want a refund.
kidding.
i like the bouncy blip bleep.
the high pitched noise is making my ears ticle.
the melody line (chip-c64 tones) are nicely rythmic..

I like it. the intro is nice and teasing, the melody sneaks in and is light & bouncy. good beats, but the snare is a little boxy for my taste.
nice ping ponging though. sweet

its very your style - and i like that dark groove - some great panning work on the hats
needs that bass to be louder & the mix of the tune is very mid eq heavy - needs more air - but you'll get it right
all together very enjoyeable because of the groove

thanks for all the feedback.
like I said, the tune (and subsequent mix) was done at a friends who's monitors I dont know nor sound too great. I did have the bass poking out a lot more but when I rendered it down, seemed to distort so I eased it off a bit (too much). The snare was another casualty of this as it was really slicing my ears when I rendered it so ended up closing the filter down a bit too much. Im not a great fan of boxy snares either.
The arrangement is about 10 hours of work and I can hear so much that I would alter now that would create the feeling of more space in some places and intensity in others. i want to simplify the skip in the verse sections and thus open it up more in the weird break for it to oscilate/undulate.
Once again, thanks for all the feedback.

I wasn't liking the beginning...but then the chord progression and melody kicked in and I loved it! The sounds are way too dry for my tastes, less lazer hits and more bass throbbing ;-)

Wiggle Waggle...feels like a videogame track, but a good one at that.
Made me wanna get up and do a lil' jig.
Good work...

Similar to zfgz, I got a severe "Sega Genesis/Megadrive" vibe, like music from the RPG Shadowrun or something approaching that. This is a good thing for me personally, I liked it.

Well this here pretty much rules. There was some subtle creepiness in here that I really liked that I thought could've been teased out a little more but otherwise, really nice.

another one i missed.
i like this a lot-the beats especially. criticism-the bleep synth-something about it doesn't quite do it for me. the beat feels so good, that i wanted something kinda less quantized, i think.
but the beats are just great.
yeah the melody is kinda almost leaning toward some jimmy smith like organ thing, i wanted a bit more.

Sorry I missed this release! I like the shuffliness of it, i may be crazy but it feels SO british. The mix is excellent as well.
