Paddy In The Punjab - monty
Release
StoreTags: Bhangra, Banjo
Author: monty on February 18 2007
--> I used to live in a part of Glasgow which was predominately populated by members of the Asian community. Anytime i went to buy milk or bread, there would be a guy behind the counter listening to this weird euphoric pop music known as Bhangra.

This is my attempt at it. (filtered through my interest in trad scots/irish music and electronica)

im using lightningmp3 to host the track.

lolol
superb stuff. you have a stretch of stylistic frontier all of your own!

this is bizarre (in a good way). i do hear a tad of the irie influence.

totally!
u need to get that bangra rhythm tho.
not the straight 8ths.. u need the do cak, space do cak

cheers all.

jdg: i know what you mean about the rhythm.
i couldnt get Reason to produce the groove i was looking for.

i put a vid on youtube it was meant to sound more like this:
Video

on second thoughts that sounds exactly the same.
lol

lol @ your banjo face in the video. dope track eddie.
omf your feel on the banjo is near perfect. rad video

YES! fuck dood.
SEND ME JUST THAT BANJO TRACK (and tell me the bpm)

holy shit thats dope. fuck dood, u win

sounds like you have to set the swing one note deeper, like on a 16th note triplet instead of an 8th note to replicate more of your banjo feel.

ung. what i actually mean is that the swing on the track is something like 2/3 you may need to get it a bit more subtle, not 5/6 but maybe more like 9/12 or even 17/24. i ain't even kidding.

lol...that video was something like take 23.

cheers for the rhythm tips astroid.
i need to explore this.

it's a bit of a pain in the ass in reason, but you can get used to doubling/quadrupling the legnth of the meter in those pattern sequencers (to 24 or whatever) and then doubling/quadrupling the bpm to access those subtlelies of feel. then again, i havn't used reason since v2, so i dunno, maybe they have better "swing" functions now.

omg . ditto dook dat ... doo dat .... like hiphop but bhangra stalling for time.
you're on the banjo spaceship aren't you? awesome. love it.
