Paddy In The Punjab - monty
Release StoreTags: Bhangra, Banjo
Author: monty on February 18 2007
-->
I used to live in a part of Glasgow which was predominately populated by members of the Asian community. Anytime i went to buy milk or bread, there would be a guy behind the counter listening to this weird euphoric pop music known as Bhangra.
This is my attempt at it. (filtered through my interest in trad scots/irish music and electronica)
im using lightningmp3 to host the track.

tuna: cheers. lol at the idea of a "banjo spaceship"
astroid. im using 2.5
i started recording the banjo and turning it into a rex file then i started shifting the midi notes of the main melody to fit the banjo.
but i got too lazy to finish doing this. haha.
the crazy second part is me getting frustrated and hitting quantize on the banjo rex parts making the banjo go all stuttery.
the Matrix pattern thingies are one of my favourite things about Reason. i just need a tad more concentration/patience to get my hands dirty with them.

man, monty: the banjo playing in the vid is superb. The programmed version sounds totally wooden by comparison.
you own Live? you can now use an audio clip to act as a tempo master.. ie. you could import your performance, spend a while setting up warp markers, then get all the programmed stuff to sync to your playing.

cbit: i used to have Live 3.
I plan to re-record the banjo, chop it up, and make each bar a seperate Rex file. and build the drum parts around the banjo slices.
which sounds like a similar approach, if slightly more tedious.

Damn...almost missed this...tres sweet and almost menacing. I kind of think you could play up that angle a little bit more, and make the drum rhythms a little more challenging.
Song is very sweet, tho.
