roshi - not mixit49
Release
Author: Roshi on June 21 2006
--> Okay, I'm really bad at following directions. This started off as a mixit and I was trying to make something shoegazery with just the provided samples for mixit 49.

Then, I thought, "gee, a guitar would sound nice in there".

Then, I thought, "gee, cosmod's cello would sound great layered in".

Then, I thought, "This needs a real electric bass track".

Then it was pretty much hopeless. I even changed the drums.

So really, this isn't a mixit, but I was at least inspired by 3 or 4 of the samples provided.

Comments of the mix would be nice. I'm trying to make it shimmery, kind of like Ride and Catherine Wheel.

Oh yeah, I'm not completely happy with the drums, so any suggestions would be nice. I might have to get something like sampletank drums or something because I really suck at making drum samples with the drums.

gorgeous... absolutely... my only complaint is that the bridg/end is a bit too similar to the preceding sections, I think it needs to be made a bit more heterogenous.

i love the totally ambient guitar which borrows melodic content from the synths
Oh and its too short.

maybe you need to buy a drumset and learn to play drums? :P

i can add some real drums to your tracks....

oh, and cool song!!

nice stuff but I wanted it to be longer too...

I really enjoyed the textures within' the mix. Everything was structured very nicely.

LOL STFU

Thanks for the offer, bleen! I might take you up on that sometime.

I do play drums, a little (as mlbot knows). I need to get some proper mics and stands so I can mic my kit.
hey i bought that same mixer for steph for her birthday last year. even tho she jsut took it to her work kitchen for smaller stuff.. and brought home her really old kitchen aide which is dirty and white.. and looks like shit in the our kitchen. CMON i want RED.

so anyway... song rad is

I have a white kitchenaid (inherited from my mom) too...but our house has the 60's red formica countertops in the kitchen. The Red one would kick so much more ass. All our other appliances are red too.

the problem with the new kitchenaids is that they are not bottom mount anymore.. they top mount..
i guess that really only matters to a few freeks.. but why change the design after 50+ years?!?

don't make me find the photo of our kitchenaid w/flames on it....

Wow! My complaint is the drums are too sequenced and stiff sounding..its dying for more human elements in it. But the washes of guitar all over is great..definitely MBV and the whole shoegaze thing.

Thanks!

Yeah, I agree about the drums...I may bash some new drum sequences out with my drum pad. I was a little lazy this time around and drew them in rather than playing them.

How are you liking those sampletank drums? I definitely liked them on your last release.

this is really nice, but the main thing that sounds janky about the drums is that snare drum doing those rolls. another approach is needed than to just have them be volume graphed. maybe trim the front off for a ghost note?
