Notis - White Chicks II
Release
StoreTags: banjo, avacado, wisk
Author: nicknotis on March 22 2007
--> Name: White Chicks II
from upcoming album: Lycopods

I've been unable to determine if this song is too repetitive or not. Part of me thinks it fits well with the other songs on the album. The other part thinks it's too simplistic. Do any of you have any thoughts?

The main instrument is a spectrally gated banjo. Avocado seeds, claps and a wisk were also used in the percussion.

Thanks,
Nick

the koto flipping pentatonics... im not sure about that the way it is.

other than that I like the proximity of all the noise versus the spec banjo

neat track!

The sounds are great. Very nice. Honestly, I kept waiting for something to happen.

Hmm, I hope the right song is playing for you guys. All I hear is my last song "White Chicks" (the first part).

Doint worry, thats an em411 bug. You hear only first song, we hear new one.

Its repetative... but I think not too much so.

The only thing thats too repetative is the short little koto sound, its too identical every time it plays. Maybe you can add/remove a little reverb, change its panning (but only a little), filter it a bit differently as the song progresses just to take the edge off

i dunno.. its not uber repeative .. i dont notice it as that atleast.

i want a biggggger bottom like a timpany bottom on some of the bass drum h its.

sounds good to my ears, but feels like there's missing some stuff

like you posted only a single track out of a whole song or sumthin

Thanks for the useful comments people. Some of the tracks are locked up as bounces that limit how I can change them. But I'm definitely able to investigate mlbot and jdg's suggestions.

I agree about it needing some meaty low end, but don't crowd it too much, I love all the room to breath here. Really lovely.

that japanese string (koto you say?) REALLY needs like a gallon of reverb. don't be shy, just DUMP IT ON!!!!

the koto takes front stage.
you might consider how it is used to taunt, is very expressive and is emotionally expansive.
i love the sound/sample you've got, just think it needs more freedom and a barrel of reverb.

I haven't updated the post, but I've reworked the song a bit. I added some deep bass to some of the bass drum hits. I took the koto strum sound out of the middle of the song and replaced it with reverse reverb stuff. Perhaps that will satisfy your desire for reverb Tunalicker.

I have to note though, that the koto strum sound isn't a koto at all. It was made with a banjo.

Maybe I just have too many koto playing firends!

Thanks again.

too many koto playing friends?!?!?! impossible

i really like your music a lot nick....i recently took all your em411 releases on a small road trip and i was quite pleased, my girlfriend was too!
