--> this is a track i made a long time ago before i'd heard of crompressers, em411, supatrigga and the word "teh".

apologies for the lame production and far, far too much reverb. i listened to it the other day, and i still like it, so you might too.

the idea for the tune was odd. the bass is a british colonial diplomat walking the streets of some noon-day square in tehran, whilst a young scamp (the melody) dodges between the columns, pelting him with stones (the percussion).

this was the first time i tried to use the al-farabi scale in a track. hence the name of the tune - fara is a kook.

i really li8ke this

I really like how you disposed your elements, awesome work on the balance of the whole piece. The "less is more" axiom applies well here.
What is the disposition of the notes in the al-farabi scale? I hadn't heard of it before (well not with that name maybe...).Thanks!

thanks for the likes jdg and goguru

according to wikipedia:

"The current[arabic] tone system is derived from the work of al-Farabi (d. 950 CE) (heptatonic scales constructed from seconds) who used a 25 (unequal) tone scale (see tetrachord), with Mikha'il Mishaqah (1800-1889) first presenting the 24 tone equal tempered division. (ibid, p.19)"

i think the one i used was the 24 tone equal scale.

i hate to mention it coming off like a cock, but love that absynth sound that's the counter-drone-like harmony or pad in there.
its not the original preset but i played with that same one and came up with squat to go with it.
you however kick some ass and totally agree with the disjointed syncopation being a great part of the comp.
your percussion always floors me. great all around. can't tell everything i like - too much good sounds!

cheers luinatinker! tbh - a lot of it is absynth - it's the only synth i had at the time that had the option to use custom scales. i found it really hard to program new sounds in it, so eventually i stopped using it altogether. the percussion is all made with the good old drummatic 2.2. i wanted to get the same sound as the bontempi organ that a friend's mum used to have in their living room.
