While working on my live set incorporating cello and live looping, I came up with this little fragment, which I kind of like.
Pretty much me playing cello through different fx through my live looper (boss RC2) and into Live, where it gets a little subharmonic love and some beat repeat.
Just thought I'd share.
Edit: For those who want more, here's the 9 minute paulstretch version with a little harmonic action: link

That's all? needs to be more than a fragment. Enlongen it.
Can you control reverb level? Despite being washed out, this is still pretty up-front. I'd love to hear this fade into the background, then jump back to the forground, etc etc., in a live setting.

I'll enlongen you (shakes fist).
I just started playing with Bidule...I think I can do lfo style parameters easier in it than live, so I may try that wet/dry reverb balance.
I'll post the paulstretch 8-hour version next.

nice! i don't know if it's just me and everything is reminding me of My Bloody Valentine, but this also has that real thick, warm string sound that I love. Emily thinks it sounds like a bagpipe.
I like it. Neeeeed more.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys. It makes me psyched to work on my live set and assault people with overdubbed cello.
Joey: I'm actually trying to do an acoustic version of my bloody valentine.
I'm performing lots of vibrato through a reverse reverb, which messes with your perception of pitch.
Kevin Shields noted that a lot of the reason people think there's a zillion guitars on Loveless is the way he bends the pitch in the songs...it's a perceptual thing that thickens the sound, and makes you think there are more players than they really are. This is maybe three overdubs.

gorgeous...i want a 20 minute version of this.
maybe sometimes a little bit of warm saturation deep under the thick cello layer. and maybe some moments of restrain, where it all fades out a little.
but omg. this is brilliant.
make an album of this.
please

Just paulstretch that 9 minute version by the same amount and you are done with your ambient album.
In the stretched version, I can hear much more distinction between forground/background parts as well as high pitch/lo pitch parts and even stereo seperation. Maybe thats all just a biproduct of paulstretch?

I took advantage of the harmonic shapers in paulstretch and added a bit more bass and octave up.
It makes me a little disillusioned with a lot of the kranky releases now that I know how a lot of people do it.
I'd rather make "honest" drones where I am actually playing the length of it rather than taking a snippet and stretching it out to a glacial pace.
