--> hello people
this a track ive been working on over the last couple of days for our 'band' millicent.
(me and radio909)

its totally not finished.
needs arranging/mixing properly.....but the basis for the tune is there.
its had no mastering at all. apart from whacking it through a limiter before exporting.

just thought id put it to you guys and see what you think it needs adding/taking away. and any general advice that you kind people feel like giving out on any aspect of the tune.......feel free.

cheers guys

great energy level. Not much to crit on this raw take. It has energy, sweet harmonic progression, nice spectrum for some IDM wheeze, good without a prominant bassline. Would like to hear something in that spectrum, if not only for 8 bars or 12 in some sort of discreet cut up.

but that is hardly something I would say would make it better.

This track rocks!

Yea. This really does rock. I don't have any criticism.

Just be careful when you do master it. Especially with fast & energetic songs, it's easy to be tempted by over compression to get a louder sound. But it's not worth the loss of dynamism. Right now, this song is really rich with bits of quite and loud.

rad shit dude!

hey hey, new millicent material, great!

some crits:

it could "roll" into the beginning beat a bit more smoothly, especially regarding the dynamics - maybe the snare itself is just a little too loud throughout though.

subbass is a great point, maybe worth adding. or define the bass you got a bit more, it gets lost a little bit once the track gets busy.

melody+pads are ace, maybe some more modulation automation on the pad to bring it up front a bit more in the quieter part around 2:18

a second melody messing with the first one would be nice if you extend the length some more (and you should, it's pretty short!) - regarding arrangement i'd maybe tease the melody or pad in the first minute with some filtered snipet of it or something.

-- and lastly, is that the track for the compilation? ;)

good job, your long distance collab is off to a good start by the sound of it!

thanks for the feedback guys.
taking all this stuff onboard.

the main thing on my mind is bass....does it need a proper bassline?
if i add a bassline ill have to do something to the kicks to get the bass to come through the mix without sounding like crap....but then im affraid i might lose some of the intensity of the beat....

i was stuggling with the snare a bit too....there are so many damn claps and stuff in there....i wanted it to have some snap and thwack and cut through the mix but without destroying the other percussive parts and/or your ears.....tried all sorts of things 808/909 went through nearly every snare sample that sounded like it might work. i ended up synthesising one on the subtractor and processing it a bit.....ill do some tweaking.

the arrangement needs lengthening deffo! i was thinking of adding another section with a different melody/sound taking the main role to give the track a different feel for a bit.....maybe switch to a rhythmic techno kinda thing for a bit.

good idea about teasing the melody in for a bit martin. think ill take it into cubase and do some chop chop choppin.

i forgot about the comp!! when is the deadline?

thanks for the words people.
xx

first week of july the latest!

Kris get me the rsn file for it, I've got some idea's brewing

that acid line is purty sick.
this is sick

i wrote out all my criticisms, but then i read filarions post and he said all i wanted to say.....and much more elegantely.

good song..doesnt feel finished, is it?

cheers guys.

id say its quite a way off being finished....needs a lot of arranging and stuff.

this was done entirely in reason BTW.

sorry, too hot to think here so no crit fb, but blimey, enjoyed the track.

hey, no crit no problem, you used the word blimey on my release page.... im satisfied!
