Deranged Pirate Funk
Release StoreTags: banjo, samba, beats, scurvy
Author: monty on June 24 2007
-->
I wrote the tune last week.
I made the track this afternoon.
All the drum sounds are sampled from a bizarre kiddie keyboard i bought in a charity shop in a town called Largs.
(Largs is famous for a battle between the Vikings and the locals...the locals won.)
Usually i stick a line-out on a keyboard to record it, this time i used a cheap mic i picked up for a pound. (also bought in a charity shop)
I think the shitty mic adds something different to the mix. stops it sounding too clean.

!!!!!!!
edit: slightly louder drum mix link
not sure what mix i prefer this, or original one.

I absolutely LOVED this, monty. I listened to it 5 or 10 times in a row while shaving with a dull razor. That was an unnecessary detail, I know. At any rate, I really appreciate your sense of humor, and especially your ability to write "character" pieces like the ones you've posted here. This reminded me of how much and why I love Raymond Scott. Here's exactly what this made me think of:

you are my post-idm-banjo-typ-o-superstar.
funny side note. while your track was playing there was a concrete driller going off outside and for half a minute i thought, it was a part of track

That banjo stuff is great. You're right. The shitty mic setup does add something.
I'd like to hear some more banjo tracks added at the climax of the song, just to kick it up a notch.

thanks for the nice words and suggestions.
they keep me warm in these dark times of doing the 9 to 5.
btw Ive renamed the track 'The Battle of Largs' for the reasons mentioned above.
