--> I've been putting this one together for some time. It's one of the last few tracks I'm trying to finish up before releasing my "Lycopods" album.

I'd love to hear what you think of the production, mix, and sound design.

But I'd really love to have you music theory lot tear this one up.

emotions: extremely soothing...provokes thoughts of serenity...although highly electronically manipulated, brings you to a far off eastern land...tribal, nature filled...a small community at simple work for the necessity to live at peace.
production: really fantastic, everything finds it place nicely and the dynamics work well. The bass are eq'd very well to add a nice rhythms...the background whistling strings are perfectly in place in the mix.
Sound Design: very watery, like a river...works well with the piece...definitely paints a picture as described in the 'emotion' section.
Overall- This is piece is fantastic, I've really never heard anything like it...it's original, evocative, and sounds crisp and clean...keep up the good work.
Recent blogs: i have arrived...

wow mysterious bell melody! i like it, at teh risk of sounding lame it sounds like a quasi harry potter film score. It reminds me of creeping through a misty forest.

reminds me of wind chimes, possibly in Bhutan or some Himalayan region. Very clean and sparkly design. You've managed to fit and slot things in place very nicely and place elements unobtrusively through the mix. There's a good variety sonicly and it held my attention all the way.

This is awesome. Is this 6/8? Makes the rhythm sound really aggressive.

Thanks for the positive remarks people. There are several sampled instruments made with wind chimes. Others are made with a wine glass. As Bobby27 suggested, the time signature is 6/8. The scale I used for the main melody is one I've heard chiors sing in Greek Orthodox churches. I don't know what it's called.

hey nick,

maybe it's just the mood i am in but i found this a bit full on. i love the sounds, the mix and the scales...but was just a bit too constant and busy for me.......i liked the small touchs where notes rang out - and i think the sounds are good enough to do that more. otherwise, as most people have agreed...very cool and original sounding.

That's an excellent point Sam. I've thought about that as well. At one point, I did cut out some of the tracks to get the song less busy. But eventually I added them back. I'm not sure it was the right choice though.

just listening again and for me, breaking it down again...along the lines of how it starts...plus a few unexpected pauses where notes ring out would be enough. i think the panning adds to the feeling of complexity...but it also works nicely. i still think it sounds amazing though dude!
this one reminds me of my favourite dead can dance songs, very atmospheric and watery. the byzantine scales make it more mysterious, i like the melodies but my ear is used to these scales, so other people's opinion on this might be more useful.

i liked the production a lot, clean and interesting. maybe the bass drum could be a little more natural / less compressed. other than that, if i were you i wouldn't change a thing. great track!

and that is why i love listening to and making music! varied approaches / opinions and outcomes

Creepy but very cool!

Some of it reminds me a little bit of Gamelan, which I love.

yum yum to Gamelan. My friend Tim plays Gamelan....lush...and yeah, remind me of that too in places.

I really like the squelghy sound modulating in the background, and the bell is very pristine - i would recommend throwing some reverb over it at key turns (at the end of 4 measures or something) just to change it up. Maybe some phase/flange. Or keep it pure and creepy.

This is damn sweet. Love the gamelan/madrigalesque bell work. The buzzing insectoid sfx add a whimsical touch!
