Live Improvisation at Hotcakes Gallery
Release
Author: madeofoak on July 23 2007
--> On June 22nd, Jim Schoenecker (Collections of Colonies of Bees, Pressboard, Topscore Label), Erik Schoster (He Can Jog, Cedar A.V.) and I played two sets of improvised music at an art gallery here in Milwaukee called Hotcakes. We had only "practiced" once for about a half hour, so all the music was completely spontaneous, which was quite a bit of fun.
Here's the second set we did that night. The recording gets cut off right near the end, but it's basically just a fade out from then on anyway, so use your imagination.

and sorry it's quiet. it's an unmastered room recording.

Wow, really beautiful so far...

nice! enjoying this myself. nice and drone-y

oh and i love that image! did you make it? love that style.

the image is from the (visual) show that was up in the gallery during the performance.

oh, and in case anyone's wondering, jim played guitar through a nord modular synth, erik played max/msp, and i played rhodes, guitar and vocals through my pedal board.

wow I really loved this

yeah, i agree. this is great... the drone just changed key and it blew my mind. i usually can't stand this sort of stuff, but i find myself really digging it. perhaps because i just got off a hard day at work and it's the first thing i heard. very relaxing. it even calmed my hyper dog down. props
Recent blogs: hello all...
NOthing new to add, just wanted to say I really dug this too. Absolutely beautiful. If you want any criticism, I'd say it could use a few other timbres to create contrast, but absolutely beautiful as is.

What precisely was Jim doing with the guitar/nord set-up?

i'm not quite sure. i'll ask him and get back to you. all i saw was knobs being twisted.

this goes on forever, great space out sounds. something different sounding, thanks!

lush man. i want a download link, so i can go and listen to this in a different setting ;)

this is awesome. Somebody just suggested i check out Schoenecker, and here he is! do you work with him a lot?

samski: link <-- download away!

flies: this is the first time i've ever actually played with him, but our bands play shows together pretty often (cedar a.v. and collections of colonies of bees), and we're at all the same shows. most of his solo material is under the name pressboard, but his more "out" experimental stuff is just under his real name. you can find almost all of it through two labels: crouton and topscore, the latter of which jim runs himself.
