Patchwork - Solitary Mechanism
Release
Author: eyesnine on August 22 2007
--> I make a sequencing/sampling machine in reaktor for each song.

The programming for this one was really very simple, but had some unexpected results. The melodies seem to flow fairly well, especially considering I don't fully understand why the melodies are there in the first place. It was just going to be a rhythmic backing part for a larger project (the sea and the city - the last release), but it stands on its own fairly well.

Towards the end it has that "i dropped my sequencer and now all it does is this" sound, it stutters and freezes, but keeps on flowing.

Not as complete, or varied as other releases, but i find it interesting.

I really like this. I think the lowest string sounds great in all it's rattling glory. You're right though, it's missing something.... I don't quite know what.

This is great Eyesine. I don't think it necessarily needs anything else. But it could sustain the addition of some very carefully crafted percussive sounds, so long as they occupy a very different place in the mix.

I like it! What's your process? Are you familiar with Christopher Willits?

great. really love it. i would've been more than happy if it hadn't gone more spastic in places to be honest. i'd like to know your process too...........i particularly like the subtle 'bends' that occur from time to time...

i record scales off of my guitar, chop them up, feed the samples into reaktor, and sequence it any way i can. i have some reaktor ensembles available for download, the links are posted in my last blog.

the spasticity is almost completely out of my control in this one. the instrument i was working on was only half done, it just sounded coherent at the time, and whenever that happens i hit record and cross my fingers.

all of my songs are part of the way to something larger. i think thats the key to keep growing.

definitely works within its own chaos. you can tell that the patch is taking over, but there still seems to be quite a bit of direction to the "song", which leads the listener to a very interesting push and pull between you and the computer. quite an achievement! i'd like to hear more.

very pretty. I second the willitts comparisons.

I also enjoyed this. I even like the glitches that slowly make their way in, taking over. Some DSP over that might do this track some justice, if you feel like spending some time in something like cool edit.

thanks.

i don't bother with any effects. i just record then normalize. it would be a nice skill to learn, but all i use is beat up walkman headphones, so i don't trust doing effects or eqing or anything if i don't know how it will turn out.

also, i think its part of the character of my music that it doesn't have any of that production stuff done to it, and i use all original acoustic samples. i'm looking for a kind of naturalness to my sound.

i would really like to work in a proper studio to gather my samples, and i could use the help of a recording engineer. if i had the means, i would do that before i would do any post production stuff.

i guess i'm gonna have to listen to this willits character. thanks for the reference, i have a hard time figuring out where i fit in this whole electro acoustic genre.

i like this.

Yep, I like this one too.
Good show
