Song I'm working on. Trying to make my music a little more slow and stately. Cello + ride + paulstretch (only 2x though). I'm loving this $40 ride cymbal I bought from my friend...it makes so many cool sounds depending on how you hit it.
Comments on mix appreciated.
Also, can someone define electroacoustic for me? I get confused.

whoa, this is washy! Im not getting all the stereo separation I know is there with where my speaks are, but I thinks thats a big thing in this.
did you do little scratches on the ride with hella verb and delay? nice stuffs
can I ask for a big, far off 'boom' like a big birch drum somewhere in there periodically? all hella verbed and in the distance like? rainforest like? not new age-ish tho, pls.

This is serene-o-rific, very nice.
I think of electroacoustic as the hybridization of synthetic and acoustic sound. But that definition would include a lot of stuff. JDGs definition is a lot funnier, and probably a lot more accurate.

dan: ride is played normally, except I'm hitting on the edge like a crash...attack is erased a little b/c of timestretch algo
Rainforest drum? Hmmm....at least you didn't ask me to record a rain stick.

Thanks for the definition, nick, that helps me at least understand one way to look at it.

That cello sounds achingly beautiful. Good job, my friend.

nice sounds man... I agree, maybe something in the bass register would give it that extra sex. I don't think a drone though, cause you're already droning all over in the mids and highs, I say maybe a percussive element?? haha, actually that's just what I would do, so please ignore that. Nice sounds though, I likes... I dig that cymbal. is there any unprocessed cymal sound, or is that all processed? It's hard to tell. It seems kinda buzzy and aliasy, and that contrasts with that nice organic sound from the cello. I wonder if there was a way to "widen" the sound of the cymbals or something. cool track.

Hmmmm...bass percussion...might have to think about that.
I was thinking about cluttering the spectrum with some gamelan gongs, but I'm not sure.
the cymbal is pretty much 100% processed - cymbal track thru verb

I'm digging this a lot. Very stately and beautiful. I agree that it's a bit lacking in the low end, but adding a bass tone might wash out the etheral feeling it's got right now. It sounds real "far away" at the moment. If you do add bass make sure you smother it in reverb or give it some heavy stereo treatment. That way you won't pull the mix in toward the listener.

What about cello percussion?
i just saw link/rodrigoygabriela those two bust out some wickedly cool beats on acoustic guitar.

oooh rocking the cymbal, very purdy!
Weird / neat how the big distorto pad thingies are all mildly out of tune, makes everything sort of unsettling.
We had a song at some "electro-acoustic" conference once in like 1992, it was a hardcore academic thing where people complained about "damn kids and their rock and roll" when they hear our song.
