i've been trying to make such a track for weeks, but all i ever came up sounded like shit so i deleted everything.

i actually didn't do any real mixing. i used no EQs and stuff like that. it just sounded right the way it was.

Fun and skittery. Do you do all of the gating and granular decays in post? How intuitive is that? I always find automation of effects like this in post to be counter-intuitive.

i use a couple of plugins (delay...) on send channels and draw automation curves of each track's send volume.
the gating is done manual by simply cutting the waveform blocks.
i like this way of working.

i used a musicbox sampleset (downloaded somewhere in teh interwebz) in kontakt, a reaktor synth that i built myself, battery for the drums and protools LE plus its internal effects.
