--> Some things going on here:

Listening lately to a lot of lush electronic pop, Bat for Lashes, Marsheaux, Underworld; I'm determined to let clear, strong melodics lead the way. Also, I learned from Bat for Lashes and Massive Attack that using a clavichord patch as a lead rhythm instrument is a good thing to do.

Wanted a structure of continuous evolution of sounds and melodics, while sticking to the basic verse / chorus organization. I may have overdone the changeups, but they keep me interested.

I wish I could sing.

Obsessed over the production on this one. Still not 100% happy with it. Want to hear how it can be better focused, perhaps simplified.

Also, this sounds to me a bit like travelogue music, which I do not like.

yes singing would be awesome in this...

You should be obsessing over the production, I love the bigness and the space it maker, fits in right to the music in my opinion. I tried to image this song with out the production, and it would not have hit me as well.

good stuff.

Cool song.

I think the bass and synths are too thick for tenor/bass vocals, unless they are pushed back into a mix/extremely reverbed...I would probably carve out the vocal range a lot more (take out some of the mids in the bass, for example). If you want soprano range vocals, I think you are ok.

I personally think frou frou (guy sigworth + imogen heap) has the best balance of vocals + electronic music...

I was thinking soprano range, really, or high tenor - the bass and mid are definitely overstuffed as is. I agree that Frou Frou pull it off beautifully. This song to me feels a lot like Plaid, so I hear something like their remixes of vocal groups (Bat for Lashes comes again to mind...).

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

I like it a lot and don't think it sounds like travelogue music at all!

A couple of the instruments when they first hit sounded a tad presetty. :57... this is the part that struck me as needing some sonorous development. It is the shell percussion synth and the depeche-like snare. But now that I listened a second time it works well and I can't imagine what you would change it to!

best thing about this piece is the changes. The composition has a deeper structure than most. It has a great build, has some dramatic weight. It's great work, Tantan!

Indeed, a fine track. I was getting a Vince Clarke vibe at the very beginning, then an Alan Wilder vibe as it went on and morphed into a much more intricate track... nice atmosphere all around... great work!

you should break your leg more often.
(heh)

i can't believe there's no percussive tk-a-tk-a-tk-a-tk-a-tk-a-tk-a sound. Who wrote this, must not have been you!!!

Yeah, I like the melodic change-ups. It could use a tonal change as well... like in the middle where you introduce this whispery sound... maybe you could change the bass sound, too, to make it less in-your-face. Filter it, add some reverb or delay... keep that section more quiet and hushed before you add back all the in-your-face-dry sounds.

I ran your tkatkatka removal script!

Ooh, I like the idea of pushing back the bass in that section.

Mullet - rad, been grooving on Yaz lately too, that reference makes me happy. Working on breaking the other leg!

Fredo - so the sounds are okey even though they're kinda presetty? Also, feel free to lay down some vocals on this one.

tasty track, really digging the way it flows into changes, sound balance. you making a lot of tracks while recuperating?

Hey m+1 - fewer than I'd hoped to, actually. Since I've been back to work full time my brain is pretty fried and free time is largely wasted in front of the telly. I have gotten some good use out of my home imprisonment though!

Great mix, great composition, great song. I think mlbot's suggestion is excellent.

As far as vocals go, I think Umami's girlfriend could absolutely own this with her breathy angelic voice.

thanks nick, going to have to drop umami a note!
