sooooo,
i was asked doing a remix for the italian band called micecars. they are kinda indierock, modest mouse type of stuff. quite cool stuff.
but as my dayjob seems to be overwhelming the last couple of months, it took like forever to work on this. and i really had a hard time figuring out parts and such. still not quite sure about, they way it worked out.
so feedback is welcome. like: is this too fractured, melodic stuff missing?
give it to me. hard and dirty. (feedback that is)
here's the myspace-page from micecars
link
the track i remixed is/was: fritz is alive

i don't think it's too mellow, necessarily, but i wouldn't mind more melody. it feels almost too separated from the actual track to me.

no its not too mellow- there was plenty going on
just my personal preference at the time i listened was for something bassy and destructive

I like it - but did they request an instrumental remix? Because I'd like it even more if it had some of the vocals from the original.

madeofak/fognoozle:
i know what you both mean with the track being too seperated from the original.
but i liked the idea of reworking the whole thing. besides one synth and a couple of drum hits in there. everything is from the cubase-session they gave me.
is this considered to be bad? i'm asking that honestly, because i always felt, like it would be cool, figuring out where the track might have gone, if somebody else would have worked with the material.

I think it's too mellow. The beats are cool, but the rest is pretty non-present.
I wouldn't ask for more melody, but maybe some sound to latch onto. Some fractured, fine, stonal even... but present.
As it is, the super IDM beats dominate, so this seems more like a yogurt song than an indierock band remix.
Cool sounds and stuff, though. Love the beats as always.

that's a feeling i also had when making this. and that was weird. i always felt like there was soemthing missing.
i'll try something, that sticks out a little.
besides the beats

Well, I like this a lot better than the original which bored me... anyways, I'd try and take some of the key vocals and slot them in somewhere, bust them up through resonators or HPFs something like that.

I love your beats. Always. But yes, melody is missing.

Yo Nils, I'm a bit later on this, hope you'll see my comment.
I love the beats, but as discussed already up there, I don't fell any connection with the original song. I know it's a choice you made and not a mistake.. but I'm on the side of them who think you should recognize some elements of the original in the remix. I know the Mice Cars track pretty well and I would have never ever said this is a remix of it.
That said, the beats are pretty cool as usual... :-)
