--> So, this is another one of those "Gee, I haven't tried to stretch myself, compositionally, pretty much ever. So I should screw with things a little" pieces.

Most popular music and just about everything I've written before has been in 4/4 time. I had intended to write it in 6/8 time, but it turns out that I wrote it in 6/4 time instead.

It's based on the chords for a jazz standard (Rhythm Changes) but it doesn't necessarily sound like jazz.

suddenly I'm back in 1986 and all the world is made of DX7s and syndrums and I'm really not sure what to make of it. points for evoking a lost world

haha, whoa... did you do this all with general midi sounds?!

fun track. You should try downloading some samples--there's tons of free ones out there--and try playing with some of the free VST plugins available at kvr-vst.com

well, I guess this style also isn't typical of the people who frequent this site, either.

I like those weird dissonant intervals you use in some places.

anyway, I would suggest stripping down some of the lines and trying some more interesting sounds

good luck

classic sound! this would be a great track for the intro of an 80's movie. You know the scene, some dorky (but really cool) new kid is walking towards the highschool. great track!

I'd say more drums (Kick and snare mainly), they feel a bit lost in the mix.

I like the breakdown, but maybe it meaders abit too much?

Cool track.

Yes, you're right Squeal, but often 80s songs of this genre had a similarly thin sound to the bass kick.

Most of the sounds here were various Buzz instruments, often emulations of analog synths. I'm kinda split. Part of me says that I should run with an 80s sound, part of me says that there's a reason why stuff doesn't sound like that anymore. One of the leads was an Ensoniq sample. No general midi sounds, tho.....

I wrote the keyboard parts by ear, not by harmony, so it's not surprising that it might be a little dissonant. :D Especially given that it was intended to be way the heck out of my comfort zone with chord progressions I'm not used to using.

Glad to hear commentary, folks. It probably does meander a bit much, and the drums are probably too thin.
