bryan teoh - music for modern dance
Release
Author: Tripnik on February 02 2008
--> My roomates and I had an improvisatory chamber ensemble called icelu that was supposed to create a score for a modern dance company. Unfortunately we've all gone our separate creative ways and although we remain great friends and collaborators, this specific project fell on my shoulders. Due to the form of the choreography and complex subject matter, this was an incredibly difficult piece to write. Specifically, the color shifts and timing of sections was a challenge to manage properly.

This piece might make more sense if you could see the dance, however since it has yet to be premiered (and because I don't own any rights to the footage) I am unable to share it. Regardless, critical commentary is encouraged.

Thanks tantan and flies, all those suggestions give me great stuff to think about. There were some issues I was sitting on the fence about (which is part of the reason why I posted this) but some of your comments more or less convinced me of what I should leave and what I should tweak. I'll be working on editing the track in the next few days and will post a new version here when I finish.

In case any of you are east coast based, and interested in checking this music/dance out live, I posted the premiere in the "shows" section on the em411 main page. I'd be honored if any of you felt like coming out.

Yeah this is well made.
Very nice

this is just awesome. the violin's occasional purifying a nice major ninth over all of this cluster is so great for my soul. I really like this alone.

the transition to the guitar is nice. it really justifies itself in the end. At first it feels a little out of place, but what washes over it is just great. and as it builds it only gets better.

the piano hits and that artifact is ghostly. this is up there with lots of minimal compositions for me.

wow

how did I miss this release.
