--> Deer - Derailleur

This is a current work in progress of a techno track I'm working on. Lots of little bits flying in and out, still trying to figure out whether it needs more elements and a strong melody or if I should concentrate on the floor "usability". seems I'm always torn between playing with the elements and changing things up and just letting it stomp forward without much interference to build a proper tension.. any comments welcome, hope you enjoy!

I like the beats, the small hi hat samples and how it's programmed.

I 'm not a fan of the pads chords...

The moment where the clap gets in comes a bit later I think... no ?

What I would do: a straight intro, without pads, with the clap getting in | after>> the bass >> a break (without beat) >> beat + clap + hi hats + pads and then play with the elements.

that sub bass is mighty big. i would tame it by a .5 or 1 dB

thanks lematt - you're right about the clap, I'll try bringing it in a bit earlier for sure. the pads will be varied a bit more with some shifting and maybe a new pattern with some more upbeat chords - i really like the subdued pads that come in first though, they have to stay =)

cheers jdg - any other mixing hints? this will end up on your desk for mastering eventually anyways, so you can save yourself some trouble like that hehe :D

this is my GF's fave from em411 right now.
I like it a tone too...mmmm/bass

no, mix is awesome.
just that sub base is biggg

if this is gonna be on vinyl.. the cutting engineer would hate you.

Groovalicious.
Deep. Warm. Subtle pads. Nice.

Thanks for sharing.

Peace

too bad. no speakers. wanna hear.....

you're the gentle dancefloor burner martin.
What i don't like here are those pad-like-chords . Not my cup of tea. Anyway, makes me wanna dance. It totally works rhythmically.
I like the snare/clap and hi-hat pitched pattern, as well. No complaints here, nice job.
Is the snare/clap overdriven or sampled like that?

cheers guys, glad you like it! the claps (and most other percussive sounds) are a machinedrum kit with a little internal delay on it every once in a while. almost no external processing except reverb and a hint of live's filter delay. the hihats are put through various lfos etc.

i'm reworking the subtle pads a bit to flesh out a hint of a melodic structure instead of repeating the same 4 chords, but I like the mood of them for this track.. it does take away a bit from potential lightheartedness of it, but that's part of this track for me the clap comes in earlier now, too and it works pretty well, thanks for that suggestion!

Awww I hate you Martin ;-) this is wicked, so simple yet so effective, I've added this to my mp3 collection which is a very rare thing for me to do when it comes to em411 releases

Lovely lovely!

this is my fav-or-ite
