so tired of this song, been obsessing over it for weeks. This mix, however, I love -- which is good, because I'm never touching it again.
There's a lot of tension here between contrary impulses:
1. The sort of heavy-handed emo bombast that comes so naturally to me for whatever reason and that I really love listening to
2. My over-thoughtful disposition that wants to layer every good idea with subtleties and detail, often to the point of choking the inspiration out of the idea
A song like this, therefore, ends up taking me literally tenfold what others take, because I want it to work on both of the above levels, whereas most tracks I'm content to let rest as either unfinished inspiration or studied editorial exercises.
Bottom line, I'm very happy with this. 
Also, Pawel says it's of the "Slow Ass Moron" genre. | |

dano - I played with that quite a bit, and that was part of what held me up was indecision about how to mix the chords. I opted to keep them brassy but mix them down a bit, as they used to fully dominate the mix. I may end up ensouping them a bit more at some point...

PPS, see, I _told_ you it could increase the epicness. Love it when the distortion and reverb builds. If I had my mitts on it I'd add even more delay to the main synth.
Thanks for turning down clipping on drums. They are still big and nasty without simply hurting.
Thanks for turning up distortion on bass? And the reverb is chewey (my dog wrote that line).
I love the few quiet moments that then rip the speakers with some big smoosh of noisey drum.

thanks mallbutt, I thought you'd enjoy teh biggness... I played some games of "what would mlbot do" while building up that section. Man, mixing down the clipping was really challenging, just because the mix is so full of stuff, but yeah, it's much better for it.
