excellent! this is one of the best songs i've heard on this site. the vocals are done amazingly, they serve as a great nucleus.

the acoustic guitar doesn't come through very well. the clapping at the end is too much, don't lose it but maybe just turn the level down a bit. i think you could do a lot better managing the stereo field. if you pick a narrow stereo field for a part it allows you to add more parts on top without losing coherency. then you can have more complex arrangements.

i wouldn't sweat any of this stuff too much though, just keep writing songs. they're good, you should make a bunch.

kidgamma: wow, a comment on the sound design. I'll be sure to keep the thinness going in future tracks.

l3k: yeah, I've been told something similar about the "sub-bass"ish bass line being too loud and that I should turn it down and add harmonics to make it more audible on my laptop speakers. This is something I'll do.

eyesnine: yeah, mixing acoustic guitar, and perhaps even recording it, has always been a bit of a trouble spot for me. I'll also turn down the clapping, since I agree with you on that. Volume seems to be a reliable standby when I feel like it's missing something (presence, reverb, etc.) and it often backfires. I was also wondering what it means to pick a narrow stereo field since my knowledge of stereo-related stuff is limited to panning a track in one spot rather than a "field" or "range" using the pan knob. If you can suggest any programs that may help me with this, I'd be grateful. BTW, I use Live so perhaps there's a tool already there. As for the extra verse, I think I can work it in somehow.

you know what, i think its just the clapping that made me want to say that comment about stereo. it sounds like its coming from all over, i think its the reverb on it (there's reverb on it, right?), and i'm not sure that's what i want to hear. unless you manage to record a whole room full of people clapping or something. after relistening, you did a good job with all the other parts.

hmmmm..... getting that acoustic guitar to pop out of the mix is the real issue. i want to say compression, but jdg says eq is what you want when you think you want to use compression... maybe you're just a little shy with the levels. maybe its just the headphones i'm listening on. i'm definitely not the best person to ask about this stuff!
