--> so, here's one of the first results of my experiments to play astroid power-up! type electro-jazz live.

what's happening, if it's not fairly obvious, is that every other bass drum hit is triggering the bass (which is being sent through my g2 and out to the evolver). The wankings on top of it are from a bunch of lfos, sample and holds, and triggers, routed semi-cleverly together, and then fixed into the chord changes by a quantizer which keeps pace with the bass notes.

what am i playing? i have my sweaty grips on a series of 16 sliders which control which algorithm is being played, the tone of the leads, and a bunch of other stuff. i have better control over the bass and the overall tone of the piece, too, but i didn't show that here. too busy wankin'!

so, be gentle, i know it's long and doesn't really pick up until about 3 minutes. it's been a long time since i've thought about live music, and i haven't gotten too much of a chance to make this very "musical" yet.

the drummer on this is Nate Wood-he recorded this on another track and then i re-appropriated it here.

yeah, and pierlu, i definitely want to add other players. that's a few months down the line after me and nate get our shtick down. i want this stuff to go from headhunters type fusion funk to astroid power-up! bebop prog wank to proper bearded idm.

you wanked it good on this one.

when do we get a real new astroid tune?

lol
i dunno cc, i have a lot of work to do on this concept before it achieves anything like fruition. i think we'll start playing out live in about 2-3 months, and then record an album.

i have also been sitting on the new astroid power-up! album for the last year-finally got the concept to finish it, but need to upgrade my protools. grrrr.

i also have an ep which is about 50% finished, which is more astroid than astroid power-up!

lowlifi's heard it, but nobody else.

oh so u love eric more now.
i see.

i love no one, only allah.

thanks for the feedback, you's guys!

here's how i'm thinking i can push the sine wave jazz thing foward past these arpeggios:

program several four and six note sequences which i can choose from on the fly-they would have to be stuff like "up one note down four notes up one note down four notes" to imitate jazz sax playing, essentially. and then, have the quantizer not pegged down to one set of chord changes, but rather switch between a few: a bare bones option which only plays the triad, another which plays the scale, and another couple which play the chord + extensions, flat and sharp. those, + control over the speed and register would be like having an idealized version of myself soloing over this shit. fun fun fun.

you're replacing circular breathing with endless rotary encoders, lol

so are you actually playing the drums live?

i was pictureing this guy all hooked up to wires and playing drums with key boards on his drum sticks or something.

I really like it alot, if you actually go play this live i would say it could use nothing more than a huge adoring audience.

i'm not playing the drums live-my buddy nate is, tho.

thanks!

totally insane, love it!

thank you tmns, that's the exact response i'm always looking for.

great stuff. fun play with synth and drums or game bleeping and drums. impressive!

Very impressive, love the synth tones and drums (nice tone and re-appropriation). Can't really comment on the bass, it sounds fine to me but it's pretty noisy around here.

Nothing constructive, but I'm fascinated by where you are going with this.
