--> Up untill now, all my sequencing has been done in reason. A very linear form of writing.

I decided to sequence and export 2 and 4 bar loops from reason, then import them to Live5.

So this is me learning how to structure and perform in session view.

The samples were placed in arrangement.

Very little effects due to novice experience.

I really like the old-school sounds.
like some real robotnic stuff.
obviously some more practice with live and a couple more effects would improve,
but don't polish it too much. the rawness is kind of good.

try some effects-for instance, some reverb on the bells and keys- try some filters, too. think about fx like instruments unto themselves, by way of which you give the already existing instruments more of a unique voice.

the middle part with everything stacked together is pretty cool! in general i like the music but think some more fx crafting would be the thing.

try this, too-listen to a song where you like the sounds of the instruments, and try to make your instruments sound kinda like those.

well yea, I understand the concept and I've used them extensively in my previous tracks. But, this is my first Ableton track. One of the obstacles I did not get around was placing effects per clip not per track. Instead of placing reverb on bells, i wanted reverb on bells bars 1 thru 16. then filterdelay on 16 thru 32. then ping pong on 32 thru 48. All I was able to do was place the effect per track. I understand Dummy clips but that seemed a bit much for such a simple thing.

*Let me guess.... it's all in the envelopes?*

oh sorry for treating you like a novice, then.

I apologize, I wasn't very clear. I meant my novice level with regards to Live 5.

so is it an envelope thing? Do I place all three effects on the track, then simply use envelopes to remove them "per clip" and keep the ones I want "per clip" ?

Yes.

But you can do that in session view. Go to the envelopes window when you click on a sample and click "linked" know you can define when you want the effects to come in in sessionmode.

I really like the oldskool sound especially in the late part when everything s going on. I would love to hear some panning. like all over the place. That would be cool.
