About me
(this is my current press bio, forgive the 3rd person nonsense;))
32 year old french musician, based in Nantes, composer, performer and producer of his music. After a seminal electronic era (1995-2002), Khoral brings melody and songwriting forward for his debut album, Animal Fraud. Produced between 2002 and 2005, distributed in CD and digitally by Wild Palms Music, the record is a mix of influences, sophisticated songs tinged with folk-rock, pop and electro. Two EPs are then released in 2006 : Elevator Songs (MP3, Electronical, 70s styled instrumental music) and Marys Mellotron Song (CDR, Papergoose Records, pop electro). Khoral distanced himself from electronics for his second lo-fi blues album, Black Hole Years (MP3, Acousmatic Records), and its minimalist, gritty sound, based on slide guitar and industrial beats. The third album (Strawberry Blonde, 2007, unreleased) aims to synthesize the various styles of these past works, straying from Animal Fraud cold wave and the electro blues approach to Black Hole Years, using analog sounds and electric pianos in search of a funkier, richer and more accessible record...

A short piano improvisation, with some Roland D-550 backing...
Comments
I like the tone clusters in this.

The backing is a little cheesy, though.
Thanks
Yeah, I can acknowledge how the strings and fx might sound cheesy to some
I like it though
The title allows me to feel the dissonant chords. I say bring the backing track up in the mix more and give it a dramatic ending! Maybe a Truman audio clip too?
Recent blogs: Re-amping Mic, How do you do it?
Ha, yeah, I see your point.
Actually I didn't want it to sound too big, but rather subdued with contained tension, though I hesitated to add a solo instrument at some point to heighten a bit the dramatic feel... I might still do that.
I also thought of a voice sample, but went for a more desolate, inhuman feeling... kinda like when you walk the radioactive ashes of your masterplan...
I like the piano, the strings and the effects a lot. The beat seems a little inconsequential though.
Thanks
Well, noted, but I'll stand by it (although it may be somewhat dry to my taste, looking back)
I agree. Your drumwork on many of your other tracks is much more interesting. This just seems a bit like an afterthought...
What happened is that I used the pre-made beat as basis to the improvisation, and it's pretty much the overall tune which is an on-the-fly statement after hearing a certain tv host backing out from having the balls to say Harry Truman was a war criminal, then claiming his was a "complex and difficult decision", like if there was any way one can rationalize and debate the brutal death of thousands of civilians.
It made me quite angry and instead of blabbing pages of personal thoughts on the blogosphere, I did this little piece and put it there.
I'll probably refine the mix later on.
Btw, I'm not saying this to cover for possible mistakes, eheh...
I just mean that the whole thing was quite spontaneous.
Nice. I agree that the implications of the title and the dissonance do fit together nicely. This would work for me without any drums at all.
What I might do is expand the piece to a whole longer work, displacing the beat for another section...
i was really hoping it would come back for one final section after it fell silent at the current end.

i like the next song very much, i've always like your voice.
I agree with Fredo's comments.
What I think I'll do next is build a middle piece with the beat and heavier noisier sounds, and then go back to the theme
I did a version that goes for about 6 minutes now, I'll letting it cool down and I'll post it
