--> er-1 and sp-505 for drums. there is also a very simple ea-1 pattern.
3 tracks of ebow.
2 egg salad sandwiches with tomatoes were used for energy and nutrients.

this all happened in one sitting. about 4 hours worth of 'work'.
once again i turn to you guys for ideas. i know its kind of boring and bare, but i cant decide what to add so maybe its ok if it just stays boring? i tried doing some plucked cello bass parts and it was sounding good, but im reallly bad at recording plucked cello sounds so i couldnt capture it just right.

so please, lay some em411 wisdom on me. add? subtract? walk away?

i updated the link....more percussion and some whale sounds!!!!

a great start. indeed.

just needs a bit more of somethign surprising.
what that is, i have no idea.

that cat has hairy cat arms!

I would go for a complete change in timbres and melody and use what you've done as an extended intro.

i don't like the snare out there all alone in my right ear, maybe give him some company
it is decent at work, typing, indexing music though

i really can't get over those monster cat arms

agree the cat has hairy arms; its legs look battered or beaten. It sure looks sorry for whatever it did doesn’t it? It’s like it should understand better, not to have done what it did. That’s why cats are cats and humans are humans. I thought I certainly heard the cat’s voice, spirit, in your synth… I thank you for that. I hear the cat’s confusion and delineations, reservations. I hear it in that synth, it’s the cat, it’s the cat isn’t it, and it’s the cat, the cat I tell u? It’s the cat isn’t it? I think you have something here. In a movie like Texas chainsaw but about cat murderers, this is great theme music for that movie. Cat’s hung by tails for miles and miles with a Wizard Of Oz background. Cats, dead, smell, kill, maim, destroy. I just hear that cat talking to me, that’s all.

great pic btw.

Very cool. The opening ambient shift is really nice, as are the wailing ebow layers and change in drums.

The hard-panned snare is a little unsettling, whether you are after that or not is really up to you.

Figuring out what it needs is very difficult, I could imagine vocals working quite well (a bit like The Notwist-perhaps). I actually don't think that it really needs all that much, mainly because the ebow is so emotive as it is.

Let us know where you take it.

I love ebow. I say play the whole cut through your amp and record the results and layer it underneath the clean for some cool textural effects. Too much panning, try closing your eyes while panning and hear where it will be in space.

yay, good comments. even from jdg!

"I thought I certainly heard the cat’s voice, spirit, in your synth…" LOLLLOZRZ

thanks very much tooth, adjective, failedsitcom and think1 for your very specific comments. i'll definitely investigate each of them.

thats a very helpful choice of words actually, thanks very much. something suprising is definitely what it lacks.

This is lovely. I would like it to be drowned in distortion, but that's just me and my shoegaze ways.

Bass needs to be panned in the center to balance everything out, I think.

A key modulation might be a nice change up that would act as a bridge section or a nice ending section.

What is the EA-1 part?

I really like the track, its calming to me.

its the first sequence of notes you hear, just 4 notes

i wanted some depthless expanses of mystery in this, a deep bass that sounds like whale song-maybe instead of centering the snare give it some huuuuuge reverb in the stereo field and leave the snare to the right. some of that clicky hat could come out every now and then-it's in pretty steady, and would create lots of tension taken out at key points, like before the beat drops, for instance.

thanks astroid, roshi, and hardvoltnine for listening.

i've made a bunch of changes already, i'll post a 'finished' product soon.
