fake lp5 era autechre
Release
Author: astroid on October 05 2006
--> 1.start with a loop of some noisey, rythymic audio (aka drums)
2.set up a long effects chain in the nord g2
3.set up the effects so that a midi note triggers a certain part of the chain, another midi note triggers another part of the chain
4.put in some midi notes triggering the fx to taste, but loop them at a different length from the track
5.make a little synth in the G2, put in similar envelopes triggered by midi (like in step 3) to control various bits of the timbre-namely stuff like PWM, and FM, to liven it up.
6. write a little melody that sounds like it's circular
7. write another longer melody with a simpler synth that sounds less cyclical.

and 2) do you know if the triggering of fx is possible in the G1 nord modular? it seems like i had made a patch that kind of did this, but it was wonky and i can't remember how i did it..."

in response to 2), yes you can do the same thing, with the note detect module-i'm using the same one on the g2. that's maybe the missing piece of the puzzle-i have about five midi lanes open in protools, one for each type of squank. so, F#5 may be triggering one part of the delay envelope, etc.

you guys are on crack if you think this is better than classic autechre. i'm doing a mediocre job of ripping off their ideas. but thanks anyway.

post more silly tracks? what are you asking?

nope ti was about the player not playing... but glotch straighten it out
Recent blogs: first blog!

oh. yeah. thanks glotch!

this is pretty damn autechre, good job astroid! (esp 4 a couple hours work) love those hand claps...funki.

oh yeah, teh dopnez...

so you split the external input signal into several fx chains, and then used the note detect modules to open envelopes to let the signal through?

or something like that?

iirc, the g1 nordmod is missing a nice signal splitting module...or am i wrong? that was the wonky part in mine i think..i had to jury rig something..

anyhow, once again, very nice and inspiring!

no, i hate autechre, this is documented.

thats why this is better.

its not really like them.. its more like you.
dongle- i forget if you can do this on the g1, but on the g2, you can have multiple signals in modules from the same source.

but, regardless, that's NOT what i did-the signal is all in one line-i did a couple of things to let a signal run by dry at the end of an envelope, but abandoned that approach-so, it was shaped kinda like this: signal in->delay->filter->bit reducer->delay. so, then, it's all wet, through the whole chain. the filter was kinda loose, like the bit reducer, the delays were a bit more resonant.

the g2 is like the g1 in the sense that, if you don't like a module, you can try to make low level components do what you actually want-instead of using their delays like they perscribe, i tend to take the mod delay module, and run it through a mixer like a comb filter, so the feedback has an external stage.

of course, that's the big drawback between g1 and g2- no delays.

wel thanks jdg. thanks p.

time, is a whore.

anyone want to help me figure out how to do something similar to this in Ableton Live?

maybe cbit might have an idea

how did i miss this one? too much new stuff for a week!
Great description of the song's setup.
i love the sounds ... als, sounds like you've learned to exploit that keyboard fairly well...
cheers!

cbit, where are you?!
