I am not really interested in yamaha, roland, akai stuff etc . . .
can anyone tell me about experiences with:
the future retro mobius
the spectral audio cyclus 3
the mfb step 64
anyother hardware sequencer i might not be aware of that is of a reasonable price.

im after a 'sequencer' to play back through my qy10
all im really after is a midi file player because i will do all my sequencing on the puter
4 tracks of midi played back simultaineously would be sweet!
but the thing is that it wont be loop based as its gonna be kinda like 'the locust' or 'dillinger escape plan' styles
shit loads of really small parts that dont get repeated... so its gotta have lots of midi memory
any thoughts?"
RS7000.Great built on sounds as well.Regarded by some as the best hardware midi sequencer out there. It has memory for over 1,000 patterns i think and each can br up to 256 bars long afaik.Solid piece of hardware

would that not be overkill though? when all it needs to do is playback midi?

I'm a little confused. Why not just use the QY-10?

(i have 2 qy10s but its still not enough... the way i program means i get about 3 songs per qy10)

lilt - if you can find an old Alesis Data Disk SQ that might do the trick. It's a 1u rackmount SysEx librarian and midi file player.

license: not a single one of those companies you just attacked him for excluding make the type of sequencer he is interested in. the mc-80 won't work either.. thats a totally different approach and if you're going to go with what i call the "pointless pain in the ass hardware midi sequencer" (such as the mc-80 and yamaha QY's) then you should just part the thread because you didnt pay enough attention to the OP.
that said.. I would go with the Mobius. I got one awhile ago and it's perfect. I squence my ms2000 with it, trigger my JX-3P's sequencer, and sync my ESX1 and computer all with the one product. It could do more if I plugged the CV outs into one of my other synths..but space is a constraint Maybe when i'm recording I'll double up the ms2000 with a sh101 :P

mute, I think you misunderstood my point entirely. I'm quite sure I got the gist of the original poster and was "attacking" Robeispierre for not trying to understand it. in fact I was arguing against the "pointless pain in the ass hardware MIDI sequencer" myself. it's possible that you have the attention deficit here - it's not a coincidence that the three companies I mentioned are the same three that the OP mentioned, in the same order...

Hello guys,
I am surprised this thread is still going. Anyway just to let you know i did end up buying a mobius in the end. The main motivation was that they have ended production and it was pretty much my last chance to get one.
Very happy with it too.
by the way license when you go to akihabara you can probably get a few more of those yamaha rack units at about ¥ 5,000 a pop but i don't know how lucky you will be at finding a cs01. better off going to one of the specialist stores in harajuku and such.

lol, no sweat.
Horizons, thanks for the info on that. all my friends are telling me that I'm gonna love Akihabara so I guess I keep thinking that is where the hott synth shops are. I know there's supposed to be a bunch of em in one area. Harajuku is that place, then - thanks.

License if you should talk to skab. I think he will have a very good idea about where you should go and how much mulla you should bring to make sure you get what you came for.
