i'm sorry if this has been asked for a thousand times but i can't find a proper answer.
i'm going to buy a new lappie and switch to apple. but its a big dilemma wich one to choose.
i have the money to buy a pro but i'm a really poor guy so that money will quite be all the money i have, wich i don't care about too much for this purpose if it's nescesary offcourse(just informing you that's a big thing for me financially so i can't make mistakes).
my actuall question is offcourse if i should buy a pro(can't afford expansions on the thing, i have like 1800 euro's) or if the mackbook is good enough for me. i want to be prepared for suprises the next 3-5 years and i pretty much will boost the machine to the max(i like to fit 10 songs in one set for gigs, remote them with 3 midicontrollers and process or record audio all at once and stuff like that).
first i was planning on buying a pro but then i heard that if you used it for music(production, preforming or whatever) it wouldn't matter.
so i wan't to ask you guys for an opinion/advice. it would come handy to save some money, but if it's nescecary i would gladly spend all of it on a good new system.

I agree with tylth, went with the refurb. Same price as the macbook with the video card for the occasional game. ;)

thanks alot guys. it's still a hard dissision but this helps.
so the next update on MB's en pro's is not before 2009 if i understand?
what indeed would be a point, is it so that the MBP is tougher because of it's metal case? that would make me buy one.

Some people are expecting Apple to update their laptops in June - with metal cases perhaps coming to both models. See here:

don't expect a major speed boost in june, again, this will not come until the nehalem chip drops much later this year, and likely 2009 for apple.
i wasn't trying to imply you should wait, just that it's a factor to consider if you intend on buying a high-end machine. imo, you might be better served going low-end now and investing in a screamer next year, when the money you pay will really be going towards performance. but don't wait to buy a machine, that game is lose/lose.

Dag. If regular macbooks will have metal bodies in June, I'd freakin' wait until June.

i've done some more research by now and i saw stories about new macbooks wich are not preforming that well with audio software. i also discouvered this is a result of the new airport update wich causes cpu peaks but i'm starting to get a bit afraid about buying a mac. i'm not sure anymore a macbook or pro is gonna be better than my nearly two year old windows laptop.
i've done this preformance test: link on my lappie i have for almost two years now and it freightens me even more. i have a nearly two year old dell inspiron with an 1,8 ghz centrino duo processor, 1 gig of ram and a 7200 rpm hdd(running windows xp) and when i run the test my cpu holds still @ 67%. nearly the same as a macbook or pro (i don't see the differ in the tests) wich has a 2,4 ghz core 2 duo processor, 2 gigs of ram and a 7200 rpm hdd.
could you guys convince about buying an apple laptop? do your apples never crash or something like that? i really have my doubts on my decision on buying a macbook.

Ive had one for about 2 months now and its never crashed. Live 7.0.3 is the most solid it has ever been and the only thing that has fallen over is Firefox but Im running v3 beta 5 so its expected.
Only thing that can be said is that there might be some issues with Leopard and some apps. Check on each apps website/forums to find out if there is.

My wife has had the "base" model of the Macbook for three months and has had no problems. I just got the 2.4Ghz version last week and have been very pleased with it thus far. Even partitioning the harddrive and installing XP Pro - so I can use FLStudio and a Windows-specific copy of Adobe CS3 - was really, really easy.
