is this like an expensive groove box? what's so special about it?

Just wondering out loud:
Sound quality aside, could one (in theory) build something that "emulates" this in an environment like Max/MSP or Bidule?
Does anyone have a PDF manual of this or the MD? I'd love to read what everything does.

i'm pretty sure you could emulate the sequencer functions in Max, probably not with Bidule but what do i know.. the new AudioRealism ADM machine has a similar functionality to that of the parameter locks on the Machinedrum/Monomachine. i'm assuming, if you could do it with hard code, why wouldn't it be possible in Max... but what do i know :P
u can grab the manuals here link

kind of besides the point though since what is so great about the MnM and MD is the interface and how it is tied to the features.

Definitely can do the sequencing part in max,
I made a step sequencer with velocity, note length, pitch, and a generic CC value per step... so it would just be a matter of copy/pasting those structures for however many CCs you wanted to use. ..
I would probably use max as the sequencer and reaktor as the sound generator(s)

I think this might be worth looking into....

6 (5 and drum samples) different synthesis types... not a rompler ...real synthesis (yeah, sure, some is VA) coupled with the best sequencer on the market = great machine. It is expensive compared to Roland and Korg grooveboxes, but it is a way more versatile and personal tool than those machines.

i think also what makes the sequencer special is how the record mode works, only changing locks when a parameter changes rather than wiping every time you go thru another record cycle, so far i haven't seen this on a software sequencer working so well (otherwise i'd sell my mm). also, unless you use the slide, the locks are locked to the step making the parameter changes abrupt and imo cool sounding. i like mine a lot but i think the synth isn't so great, its expensive and the way it deals with polyphony is a bit annoying.

The synth isn't so great? Huh? Sure, it's not analog...but it isn't trying to be either. How many other synths offer 5 types of synthesis, many outside the norm, with the range of parameters the MnM offers? I think people give up too easily on it.
