Hello, does anyone know what synth is responsible for that 80's twangy bass sound (ie Madonna's Like A Prayer etc).
If so, any good plugins that can emulate this?
Thanks!

Just for synthpop's sake.
link
I saw this alone and blushed in denial because I kinda dance like that guy (around 1:20 and on)..... then later I showed this to a bandmate and right away he just says "Jugle he totally dances like you"...
yes it's a very gay song... so gay it doesn't even flaunt it. Daft Punk can take that killer intro and suck on it..

i'm websensed here at work but the link looks like this points to the creatures, as in the 80's italo group? ... those italo peoples could dance their ass off ...
madonna. twang. fm bass. hmmm. i don't know. as much of an FM fan as I am, there is a gray area sometimes where I simply cannot tell. where you make an analogue sound fm-ish or you make fm sound analogue ... that indiscernible in-between -- THAT AND ONLY THAT is teh secret to classic dance-bass.

Haha ,.. that's really funny. Totally agree. Like the whole "Low-fi/hi-fi vs. Hi-fi/low-fi".
and yes it's the Italo group.

OK this creatures track is a great example. I have no idea what the bass sound is exactly ... the 80's-ness is almost more the approach to the bass-line. pulsing and TOTALLY UNASHAMED. could crank something out like that with a fucking rompler and it would still sound hot. maybe?
OT, but i totally crank "maybe one day" when the boyfriend is out and no one can criticise!

Every pre-set bass tone in Reason.
One of these days I'm going to rock that crappy slap bass Seinfeld sound.

Haha, great stuff! Seems like it's a little harder to achieve that sound then ;)
As for which plugin, VST/AU for PC or MAC would be great!
Thanks again!

To make it with a subtractive synth, I reccomend setting an audio-frequency oscillator to modulate the filter. it's easiest to do with a minimoog/emulator. On the moog it's the 3rd osc and it'll follow the keyboard. Resonance would affect the level of fart, and cutoff would limit the brightness of fart. I'd say for this application, turn the fart down or have a little filter envelope do that.

Does any one have any ideas for how to make my bass guitar sound like Lately or Solid Bass?

If you own a Nord Modular (Classic or G2) you can find 'lately bass' patches here : link
Compared the patch to 'solid bass' my DX100, sounds good. Lacks the background 'fizz' that the DX100 generates tho, sounds a bit cleaner.

My favourite 80s bass sound is the "Slap bass through a heavy chorus" a la Gary Newman.
Makes me want to puke on myself.
